Crypto ETFs Pull $206M Weekly Inflow as Bitcoin Crosses $79K on Institutional Return

BofA data shows highest fund demand since October 2025, with Bitcoin ETFs capturing 85% of flows amid regulatory clarity.

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds absorbed $175 million in new capital during the week ended Friday, lifting total crypto fund inflows to $206 million and marking the strongest institutional demand since October 2025, according to Bank of America's weekly flow report. Bitcoin crossed $79,000 on Friday, up 9% in a single session, as the price rally and allocation shift converged.

The week began with $236.5 million in outflows on Monday and Tuesday. The reversal arrived Wednesday with $101.1 million in inflows, accelerated Thursday with $730.8 million, and closed Friday with $174.6 million. The Thursday surge represented the largest single-day crypto ETF demand since launch records began tracking institutional vehicles in January 2024. Bitcoin ETFs captured 85% of the week's flows, with Ethereum products and diversified crypto funds splitting the remainder.

The timing matters. Regulatory clarity improved after the SEC announced it would not pursue enforcement actions against spot crypto ETF issuers who maintain custodial arrangements with registered broker-dealers. That guidance, issued Tuesday evening, removed a compliance overhang that had kept three mid-sized family offices and two insurance allocators on the sidelines since August. The Thursday inflow spike followed by exactly 36 hours. Separate filings show two insurance general accounts initiated Bitcoin ETF positions between $50 million and $100 million each on Thursday morning.

The institutional bid is not uniformly distributed. Four Bitcoin ETFs—two from established asset managers, two from crypto-native issuers—absorbed $640 million of Thursday's $730.8 million total. The remaining products saw negligible flow. That concentration suggests allocators are prioritizing liquidity and balance-sheet strength over fee compression. The average daily volume across the top four Bitcoin ETFs rose to $1.2 billion on Thursday and Friday, double the prior four-week average. Options open interest on the two largest products climbed 18% week-over-week, indicating derivative hedging activity is catching up to spot demand.

Allocators should monitor three developments over the next four to six weeks. First, whether the SEC extends similar custodial clarity to staking-related products, which would unlock Ethereum allocations from pension accounts currently restricted by fiduciary interpretation. Second, the monthly flow pattern: if October closes with net inflows above $800 million, the technical setup suggests a sustained institutional cycle rather than a positioning squeeze. Third, whether family offices begin filing 13F amendments showing Bitcoin ETF holdings, which would confirm the shift from direct custody to regulated vehicles is structural.

The $79,000 price level is 4.2% below Bitcoin's all-time high of $82,400 set in March 2024. The difference: this rally arrived with $206 million in weekly institutional demand and falling implied volatility, not speculative leverage and rising funding rates.

The takeaway
Bitcoin ETFs drew $206M in the strongest week since October 2025, with 85% concentrated in four products as regulatory clarity unlocked insurance and family-office allocations.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
