European Luxury Equities Rise 4% as Earnings Season Arrives With Valuations Stretched

LVMH and peers recover from first-half losses, but third-quarter results will determine if the rally holds at current multiples.

LVMH shares climbed 4% this week, leading a broader bounce across European luxury producers after months of underperformance. The move comes ahead of third-quarter earnings releases scheduled to begin late this month, with analysts expecting modest growth but no clarity yet on whether Chinese consumer demand has stabilized or merely paused its decline.

The luxury sector gauge spent the first half of 2025 under pressure as weak China consumption data and inventory concerns weighed on sentiment. LVMH, Kering, and Hermès all traded below their five-year average multiples through June. The recent rally has reversed some of that discount, pushing valuations back toward 18-20x forward earnings for the sector's core names. That leaves little room for disappointment when companies report in the next three weeks.

What matters now is whether the rally reflects actual demand recovery or positioning ahead of results. U.S. wealth creation has provided a cushion—North American sales for LVMH's fashion and leather goods division grew 8% in the most recent quarter, offsetting continued softness in Greater China. But the American consumer alone cannot support current valuations if Asia-Pacific sales remain flat or negative. Analysts are watching for two signals: any stabilization in mainland China traffic trends, and whether European tourists have resumed pre-pandemic spending patterns in Paris and Milan. Both will appear in the commentary more than the headline figures.

The third-quarter earnings window runs from October 22 through November 7, with LVMH reporting first, followed by Kering and Richemont in the final week of October. Hermès, which has maintained pricing power better than peers, reports November 4. If management teams signal that September showed sequential improvement in China or that Golden Week travel data translated to actual sales, the rally likely extends. If they hedge or guide conservatively for year-end, the sector reprices lower within days.

The current valuation assumes recovery without confirming it. That assumption gets tested in two weeks.

The takeaway
Luxury equities recovered **4%** this week, but stretched valuations leave no margin for weak China commentary when earnings begin October 22.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
